My Project
I teach Kindergarten inclusion in a public Pre-K - 5th grade elementary school in urban Honolulu with two other Kindergarten teachers. In our kindergarten classes, we have over 80% of students who are considered high-risk students. For most of our students, this is their first time being in a school setting and being around peers their age. Despite all the challenges they are currently facing, our kindergarteners are persevering through it all and are becoming leaders of themselves and of their learning. It's inspiring to see our students thrive each day despite the hardships they faced in the past years.
Helping to create lasting memories for our students and their family through family engagement is a goal we strive for each year.
When families are engaged in their child's learning, students have a more positive academic journey and become more successful in life. It's imperative that we create these positive views on education and partnerships with families starting from Kindergarten.
By purchasing cameras and photo papers, we can capture the candid and happy memories our students and their families create through our Leadership Picnics and Family Nights. Students can take home these memories and reflect on the fun and happy times they had at school. When we can get all of our Kindergartners to view school as a place where they can have fun, be safe, and feel valued and cared for, all the while loving learning, then we know our students are on the right road toward success.
