Making Meaning: Building Stronger Reading Comprehension Skills

My Project

My project will provide my students with engaging reading comprehension games that will help them become thoughtful, confident readers. Reading is about more than decoding words—it is about understanding, thinking, making connections, and using information from a text.

What if learning to understand a text could feel more like play than work?

The materials I am requesting, including Kooky Carnival: A Context Clues Game, Extra! Extra!: An Informational Text Game, and Reading Comprehension Folder Games, will provide students with hands-on opportunities to practice important comprehension skills.

Through these games, students will practice using context clues, identifying key details, understanding informational text, making inferences, answering questions, and explaining their thinking. They will be able to practice these skills independently, with partners, and in small groups.

These activities will make reading practice more engaging while giving students the repeated practice they need to grow. My goal is for every student to become a reader who not only reads the words but understands, thinks about, and connects with what they read. Your support will help make that goal possible!
