Making Math with Markers

My students need 21 individual marker boards to help them learn math through hands on material.

My Students

Have you ever tried to listen or see something or someone that is too far away? Our classroom does not allow our students the ability to see a large marker board for our Math class. The budget cuts throughout our school and the state forces us to be creative. These boards would be a great asset to us.

My students attend a small rural school in Illinois.

There will be 2 classes of Math in this room with 21 students in each section. Our school has about 50% of the students who are in poverty so our parents aren't able to give like some other communities. These students are hard workers who want to succeed, but they aren't always in the best position for success without help.

My Project

The individual marker boards that we are requesting will be used by 42 students every school day. Math is an important part of education and our future. These boards will allow these students an opportunity to practice everyday problems hands on. In our class this year, students will complete problems such as decimals, addition, subtraction, multiply, division, algebraic, and fraction problems. They will also use these boards to display and interpret data. Your donations will help these students prepare for life after 5th grade.

Studies show students learn at a higher level when using hands on material.

With your donations, these students will be using their hands everyday to complete problems, gather and interpret data, and create geometric figures. These are skills that these students will use daily for the rest of their educational careers and many of them the rest of their lives. Your generosity is appreciated by all of our school district, our students, and myself. Thank you!
