My Students

My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. They bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community, and I have twenty-eight students in my class. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.

I grew up in this city, and I truly believe I am meant to teach here and give back all I can to my hometown.

My school is a magical place. Despite the challenging home lives of many, my students walk in the door of our quaint little building and are welcomed with heartfelt greetings and genuine smiles, and they are ready to be the best they can be.

Our staff provides specific academic, emotional, and behavioral support to students to meet their specific needs so they can reach their personal potential. I am blessed to witness incredible student growth during each school year, a result of the dedication of my colleagues and hard work of our students.

My Project

These differentiated base ten blocks will help students to visualize the processes of multiplication and division by relating the operations to place value understanding.

Students truly conceptualize mathematical processes when they can see the steps clearly and maniupulate the parts of the problem.

With your help, these tools will be used as a teaching and learning aide that will allow students to make sense of the area models of multiplication and division. These are standards that students are required to master, and when they are taught only using representational and abstract strategies, many students will be unsuccessful. Please help all of our growing mathematicians succeed!
