My Students

My students are kindergarteners. They learn through play and exploration! Every morning they walk through the door looking forward to the special time we set aside to practice skills through hands-on activities. They love to build, explore, and create!

My students are hands-on learners.

They come to me with many different backgrounds - many lacking experiences that build solid mathematical concepts and fine motor skills. Many times, my classroom is the first place they experience holding a tub of Playdoh and carefully shaping it into a ball. They love to use wooden blocks to build skyscrapers and railroads! Everyone begs to use these materials for exploration, but I know that they are being used for so much more. So many mathematical concepts can be taught though play!

My Project

These sets of Magformers magnetic shapes will allow my students to explore 2D and 3D shapes in a hands-on way! So often we are tempted to teach these concepts through a worksheet or by looking at pictures of these shapes.

How amazing would it be to ask my kindergarteners to take a handful of squares and build a cube?

These important concepts about 2D and 3D shapes that we teach in kindergarten would come alive for my students if they had access to these magnetic shape sets! These would give playing with "blocks" a whole new meaning in my kindergarten classroom. The fact that they are magnetic would make these sets so engaging for my 5 and 6 year old students!
