Making Math Meaningful

My Students

Have you ever witnessed a child struggle with basic math. Our students use the Accelerated Math program for daily math practice on skills that are geared for their personal skill/review needs, to change that. Please help us provide them with the paper it takes to print the packets.

We are a title one school.

Our students come from various backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. My first grade students are bright and eager to learn. My students are very diverse and need to work on varied instructional levels. My student group includes students with varied speech and language development, students with specific learning disabilities and students who have experienced a prior retention. All children learn at their own pace as do adults, therefore this program helps to guide the material to meet individual needs. They enjoy the independent atmosphere in the room.

My Project

This program promotes independence and responsibility for each student's own learning. The children really feed off of this and want to continue. The program does use quite a bit of paper and this is where your help comes in. Please help by donating a ream or so of paper so that the students may continue to build their foundation and love of math.

I instruct the math lesson for the whole class in small group.

Then allow the students to go to math stations to practice the weekly skills. In those stations the students are also expected to work on their Accelerated Math packets. This packet is between 2-10 pages of math problems specifically generated for each students needs. I am available to assist students on their individual needs during the station time.
