Making Math Meaningful with Hands-On Supplies!

In this proposal, I am asking for a set of hands-on math trays, problem-solving math cases and a math star game for my first graders.

Hello Friend, I am a first grade teacher in North Carolina. I know I have the BEST job because I get to spend my days working with six and seven year old students. Who has more fun than that?

This year I will begin my 14th year as a classroom teacher. During my years as a teacher, I have learned that I have to do all I can to ensure my students understand the many math concepts and skills that I teach. Math is a subject area that my school has chosen for us to improve instruction. However, we do not have the money to buy the needed supplies. That is why I am writing this proposal. I would love to have the 3 different supplies listed below so I can provide hands-on tools for my students to use while exploring and investigating math concepts and skills.

The supplies I am asking for will benefit my students for many years to come. They will also enable my students to have a true math understanding. The hands-on math trays will help my students learn and practice basic math skills while laying the foundation for future math learning: sorting, patterning, graphing and comparing. The problem solving cases set will be used during guided math groups and daily instruction so I can easily differentiate learning that takes place in my classroom. These cases also will provide students with building their understanding of basic math concepts. Finally, Who Wants to Be a Math Star? Quiz Games will be an interactive and exciting way for students to review and build math skills as they play-who doesn't love to play games? I just know the supplies I am requesting will not only help my students with their knowledge of math skills, but also enable students to explain and show what they have learned.

If you would like to help my students become better math thinkers, I would love to have your help! No longer can worksheets provide students what they need during math instruction. I just know the supplies that I have requested will provide differentiated learning opportunities for my students as they build a solid foundation of basic math skills.
