Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each year I teach I see the importance of getting manipulatives into students' hands so that they are able to work through problems using an array of strategies. The shoelaces and colored (red and white) beads will be used for my students to make their own rekenrek line, a tool that is similar to a numberline, and can help them fluently solve addition and subtraction problems. The clothespins will actually help mark tens or when they build their first addend so that they can double check their work along the way.

Colored pencils and dry erase erasers are going to be used throughout the school year in our daily activities, whether it is when we are using white boards for review or illustrating our stories.

During our publishing process, students take the opportunity to illustrate their work so having colored pencils on hand is a necessity!
