Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade at a low-income, high poverty school site with a diverse population. My students are a diverse group who encounter various hardships to be able to come to school and learn. Thus, they have had various life experiences to share with the class. The students’ languages mainly range from Spanish and English. Due to the area's needs, all the students receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is in a small community within the nearby larger city. It is a close knit community, which includes the families, businesses, and our school.
While students may face many different challenges in their lives, they come to school with a great attitude, are excited to learn, and are prepared to help support their classmates.
They try their best daily and look forward to coming to school to be in a safe and loving place. My students have so much potential but need support in their education to help them become successful students, citizens, and individuals.
My Project
I am requesting various math materials and games. These items will be used daily to reinforce the math skills we are learning in our small group lessons. It is crucial students fully master multiplication, division, and other new math skills from third grade before moving on to more challenging skills like decimals and long division. As educators, we want to provide students with all the tools possible for their success.
My students need to have multiple opportunities to practice their math skills.
The materials I have requested, like the Hot Dots math activities, multiplication war, timers, and books will provide students fun interactive ways to explore math. In addition the other organization materials will ensure that all students, current and future, will be able to use the materials.
