How do we prepare students for technology, engineering, and science based careers that do not even exist yet? We are living in a rapidly growing, fast paced world that revolves around the internet and technology. As an educator, my challenge is to prepare my young students to think in a way that stimulates their creativity while helping them develop a mathematical and scientific foundation in order to understand the world around them.
The students in my classroom include many gate students who are looking for a way to expand their intellectual horizons.
They are enthusiastic, creative, driven, and engaged. These students are constantly redefining my role as a classroom teacher as we work together and learn from one anothers experiences. My ultimate goal for these students is to help them develop a passion for learning that will last a lifetime.
My Project
My classroom lacks sufficient materials for my fifth graders to develop and strengthen number sense. The dice, dominoes, and math practice cards will be used daily by my students during our math center time. My students will love learning how to play new dice games and at the same time they will be practicing multiplication and division.
My students need to build their math fluency!
We will be using the dice, games, and dominoes to continue to reinforce math concepts through play. The students will learn to play these games independently and it will be a way for them to gain fluency with numbers.
