Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Math can be very challenging for students, but it can also be fun! My students need games and activities to help them practice what they are learning in math, while giggling, laughing and doing what kids do best, have fun!
My students are amazing individuals!
They have to over come huge obstacles in order to learn the rigorous California state standards, while also learning to speak a second language, English. About 80% of the students in my class are second language learners, while approximately 85% are from low economic families. My students have families that care, but struggle to find ways to help their students learn, since they themselves are struggling to take care of the basic needs of their family.
My students need to enjoy learning and need time to laugh while learning. They need time to practice the math skills that are required for them to be successful, life long learners. Math skills can be practiced and mastered through routine practice, but they need the resources that help make practice enjoyable.
My Project
My project, "Making Math Fun and Games," will include various games that the students in my class can play to help master some of the basics of fourth grade math, multiplication facts, division facts, fractions, and decimals to name a few. By mastering these basics, my students will not struggle in the up coming grades and will move forward with ease. By mastering the concepts taught in fourth grade math, my students can move into fifth grade with a solid foundation to build upon and move forward.
My project will also allow my students to be kids! The games and activities will allow students to learn while laughing and smiling! It's not often any more that you hear students say how fun math was. I want them to be able to go home with smiles on their faces and knowledge in their brains.
I would also like to make the resources available for parents to check out for those students who are struggling, so they can help from home.
Do you remember being a fourth grader learning math?
Probably not, but I do want my students to remember how much fun it was to learn math in my class. I want to help them succeed in the world of math by creating a solid foundation to build upon. I know my students can be amazing mathematicians with a little practice, so why not help make the practice FUN! Please help my students laugh and have a good time, while learning to become masters of math!
