My students are amazing individuals! They have to over come huge obstacles in order to learn the rigorous California state standards, while also learning to speak a second language, English. About 80% of the students in my class are second language learners, while approximately 85% are from low economic families. My students have families that care, but struggle to find ways to help their students learn, since they themselves are struggling to take care of the basic needs of their family. My students need to enjoy learning and need time to laugh while learning. They need time to practice the math skills that are required for them to be successful, life long learners. Math skills can be practiced and mastered through routine practice, but they need the resources that help make practice enjoyable.
