"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin. My students come from many backgrounds making our school one of the most diverse in the state. They come to our school at all educational levels and are eager to learn.
My class has 22 students with almost all coming from a household of poverty, lacking background knowledge and resources from home, and many are English Language Learners.
Our school consist of approximately 40% black, 30% Hispanic, 20% White, 10% Other.
Our school is a wonderful place where ALL our students are welcomed and loved. We view our students' many different cultures and backgrounds as strengths that should be recognized and celebrated. Finally, our school believes ALL students are capable of learning at high levels.
My Project
Your generous donation will allow my students the opportunity to experience hands on learning. The math materials will be used daily in our classroom throughout the school year. Multiplication arrays, counters and cubes will be used for multiplication, division, and other math instruction. Students will explore fractions while using fraction tiles. Base ten blocks will be used throughout the year to develop concrete number sense which will allow the students to think more abstractly.
Math manipulatives are a powerful tool to build students' understanding of math.
The products I have selected will be a learning tool for my students. Students learn best when they are engaged. The use of these materials will make math fun and engaging for all my students.
