Making Masterful Music With Magnificent Middle Schoolers

My Project

Woodwind instruments are some of the most temperamental of the band instruments. Small changes in any part of the instrument can create major struggles for the player. This also includes the reeds that each instrument uses. Small cracks and chips in a saxophone reed can make it almost impossible to play that saxophone. Most of the time, students might not even say anything if they have a broken reed because they will feel bad about it being broken. Learning a new instrument is already hard enough, so I want to set up each student to have the best chance to produce a sound they are proud of.

This sentiment applies to much of the other equipment on this list. When I started teaching at this school, I inherited many mismatched drumsticks, percussion mallets in rough shape, or string instrument bows that barely have any hair left. All of these things make it unnecessarily difficult for young musicians to make music that they enjoy!

The students here, just like everywhere, are bouncing back from a music-killing COVID period. They are regaining their love for music and are working hard to make music together and present it to the community. Your donation will help give our students what they need to continue to (re)build our music program.
