Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is located in Houston, Texas and we are a family that consists of 42 eager to learn kindergarten students. We are a Title I school, in which all of the students receive free lunch.
My class is culturally diverse with many different backgrounds and that's why I love teaching here.
It is comprised of the majority of the students learning English as a second language, students with learning disabilities, students coming from a single-parent household, and students who are economically disadvantaged. Despite their difficulties, they always come into our classroom with smiles on their faces and ready to learn.
I want to provide my students with unique learning experiences in and out of our classroom that they can carry through life.
Many of my students and their families were affected by Hurricane Harvey and I am trying to make them feel welcomed and safe in our classroom. I want them to feel like their life will get back to normal after such a tragic event.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly from learning materials that are hands-on and engaging. They will have so much fun developing oral language and comprehension skills while they retell their favorite stories with a variety of puppets and story pieces.
I believe the fairy tales problem solving STEM kits will expose my students to STEM in their favorite fairy tales and inspire them to explore each challenging situation until they find a solution.
These kits will also help my students with reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. My students will be ecstatic to have these kits in our classroom.
My students are in need of hands-on alphabet and phonological games and materials that will help build a strong foundation with letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming and other phonics skills. They will really enjoy the alphabet mystery game to practice beginning sounds. They will love exploring letter recognition and letter sounds with the alphabet lock and key game. They will also have lots of fun building words with the house blocks. I know they will be thrilled to have so many new games to learn with.
