Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I'm a Math Teacher at a Junior High that serves about a 65% Hispanic Population. We are a very small district with a lot of caring teachers and little resources. My students are typically unmotivated and underperforming. I always become discouraged when we hit the section of graphing lines in our Math book. Students really don't take a liking to graphing. They think it's tedious and useless. Well, things are about to change. I would like to have students become comfortable graphing lines with the aid of technology. Students love technology and whenever a teacher incorporates technology into a lesson, the interest level sky rockets. My first step is to start with a Graphing Calculator Projection Kit which will help me with explaining and demonstrating different lines and their respective equations. Hopefully, someone will help fund 2 teacher kits of graphing calculators(10 per kit), so that we will have enough for 2 students to share. I would like to do a complete unit on graphing lines (about 1 1/2 weeks) and then introduce them to other functions (parabolas, circles, etc.). I know that the students would love to use these calculators and that it would make a great impact on their learning.
