Each day, I work with a large group of students who enter class filled with zest and a genuine curiosity to learn and grow. They are a diverse group of students which includes a large number of English Language Learners, students with special needs, and students who receive free and reduced price lunch. With such diverse backgrounds and experiences, my students bring so many unique strengths to our classroom learning space.
My students have a fire for learning that inspires and motivates me daily.
They spend approximately forty-nine (49) minutes in reading and social studies classes. Forty-nine minutes of class time requires efficiency and teamwork to ensure students meet outcomes and experience success. But more importantly, my students deserve a space where they feel comfortable learning in the way that benefits them and accommodates their needs the most. After all, they are the future of Georgia.
My students will utilize the Chromebooks to participate in more individualized learning experiences designed to help improve their reading and writing proficiency. They will complete project-based learning and collaborative writing tasks. Additionally, I am starting a Literacy Club, which will allow students to explore writing and reading in the same space. For most students, this opportunity will provide a safe haven for students that struggle with reading and writing. However, these goals are challenging to accomplish without daily access to technology.
My goal is for students to develop critical thinking skills, analytical writing skills, proficient research skills, and reading skills, and Chromebooks would help us accomplish this goal in an effective way.
Although all students may not have daily access to technology at home, most students are more comfortable learning when engaged with technology versus traditional pencil and paper assignments. Furthermore, technology has the potential to transform our learning experiences by allowing us more access to information. With our Chromebooks, we will develop the skill necessary to become critical thinkers, analytical writers, and proficient readers. Scholars will also have the opportunity to create a lasting collections of the great work they accomplish.
