My Students

My K-5 students have big hearts, big imaginations, and big dreams, but not big pockets to help reach them. They are awesome kids who deserve a chance to be supported in every way to expand their interests and reach for their goals! Being at a 95% Black and Hispanic urban public elementary school in southeastern Wisconsin, most of my students are from communities who have been historically marginalized and they often miss out on examples, opportunities, and resources to support them in reaching for success.

With a 100% economically disadvantaged school community, my students and their families rely on the opportunities and access provided by the school for extras.

I am working hard to provide more hands on activities and diverse representation through our school library programming and materials, but with a limited budget at a small school, my students miss out on so many experiences many others take for granted. Help me make this a reality!

My Project

Osmo brings technology, interactivity, & fun to learning! We currently only have 3 Osmo Genius kits in our library, so they cannot be used with a whole class at one time, but they are one of my students' favorite things to use.

This project will provide the base & reflector + manipulatives needed to use Osmo apps with a whole class during library & add on to our existing kits with a broader range of activities to support early literacy skills for our youngest students.

Children's letter knowledge is the foundation of literacy. Osmo Little Genius Sticks & Rings takes the traditional way of letter learning and adapts it to make it fun for kids to understand how letters are being built. How well you know your letters in kindergarten & 1st grade will determine how successful you will be in school! Being able to use their hands to learn how letters form and work is a more effective method for kids to learn these crucial skills. Osmo Genius Words takes it further and helps kids develop letter/sound recognition to support reading and spelling.

The rest of the activities will help students develop creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and fine motor skills alongside mathematical & literacy skills through these tablet app based activities.
