My students attend an inner-city alternative school that teaches “at-promise” kids who are struggling behaviorally and academically. They often arrive each day with challenges most of us cannot comprehend - broken homes, generational poverty, homelessness, mental illness, and hopelessness. My job is to educate, love, and inspire.
Everyone deserves a second chance and my students teach me that every single day!
I want to provide the most engaging resources and learning environment possible for each and every student.
My Project
I am hoping to upgrade my middle school reading corner within the classroom. Students come to my room for academic assistance and often crave a different work or learning environment. I work to provide a safe, creative and motivating atmosphere.
I would like to provide a couple of nontraditional seating options to encourage reading and assignment completion.
The beanbag, floor seats, and wobble cushions along with a calming weighted puppy lap mat would entice them to give additional assignments effort and a bonus, pick up a book and read in a comfy environment.
