Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are outgoing eager learners, spirited in their own way and full of energy. They come to school each day ready to learn, showing their curiosity and motivation towards the challenges presented to them. They truly enjoy exploring new concepts and ideas and being able to use their own inventiveness in their thinking.
Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.
I strongly believe that students will have your support and attention once you show them your compassion and kindness, seeking interest in each of them. I allow my students to be apart of their decision making and assist in creating solutions guiding their education and learning. I strive for them to understand the importance of their voice within the classroom and expressing their feelings within our classroom.
My students come from many different areas outside of the United States: Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic to name a few. Our school is a cultural center for English language learners offering teachers that are specially trained to work with English language learners.
My Project
My students would benefit highly from more engaging ways to learn different math and literacy skills. Our focus this year is on: letter identification, letter sound correspondence, one to one counting, number quantification and number recognition. These materials will be used daily during different learning activities when discussing different math and literacy objectives. These materials will be available for the students to explore using their creativity with their peers during small group, large group and during learning center time.
It is my goal to make Math and Literacy engaging and exciting while preparing them for Kindergarten!
The opportunities are endless on how all of these items can be used to positively impact my students daily with learning and building their emergent reading and math skills. These resources will change the lives of my students' allowing them to only increase their appreciation and passion for school feeling more successful every day and more ready for Kindergarten.
