My students need GPS watches to accurately record time and distance run.
This project expired on July 8, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My runners are students first. Our school is an International Baccalaureate school, and Visual and Performing Arts School. We have a very rigorous academic program, and these students also perform and compete in music, dance, drama, and visual art.
We are a public middle/high school, in a large city, yet our students have to apply and be accepted to attend.
Because of that, they must maintain high grades and great behavior, to continue attending. Students from all over our city, and the surrounding cities, are chosen to attend. Because they are not all from one neighborhood, or one part of town, we have a very diverse population.
These watches provide great motivation and feedback for my runners. They are able to keep track of distance and pace, and are able to easily change routes and make their runs more interesting. We received similar watches from Donors Choose a few years ago, when our team had about 12 boys and girls. We have grown to 40 team members and our needs have grown, too.
Our motivation, experience, and talent make the goal of reaching State next season a very doable goal.
We missed making it to the state championships by one team position this year, although we did have two individuals who qualified. There isn't a lot of equipment involved in cross country, but these watches are the type of equipment that can take us there.
In addition to cross country, our school is planning to begin a track and field team next year. The watches will be used by those team members, also. With our success in cross country, we expect to continue our growth in cross country and to quickly see that growth in a track and field team.
