We have since been able to give new life to some of the materials that were pulled from our library circulations and repurpose them for various student projects. We were able to easily cut down a number of our dated materials and provide students with upcycled origami paper that, when paired with current library materials, they were able to create amazing works of art. Other students have been using the materials to practice making their own books from start to finish - gluing a text block, making the hard case, and fitting the pieces together into a pocket-sized book. We will also be using the watercolor papers and recycled book pages as a means of practicing stitching signature pages together to make a text block and fitting those into a hard case, so that they can give life to their own stories and art.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping to support arts and literacy within our school!","fullyFundedDate":1754410852477,"projectUrl":"project/read-write-recycle/9524983/","projectTitle":"Read, Write, Recycle!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Watkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10106545"},{"teacherId":8188253,"projectId":7649294,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, my guitar students now have the essential tools they need to learn confidently and successfully. The new strings and tuners have already transformed the day-to-day experience in our classroom. Instead of losing valuable instructional time trying to make worn-out strings work or struggling with inaccurate tuning, students are now able to begin each class with instruments that sound clear, vibrant, and professional. This reliability has boosted their confidence and allowed them to focus on developing real musical skills.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes beyond just better equipment—it has sparked a renewed sense of pride and ownership in our program. Students are more eager to practice, more willing to take risks, and more motivated to perform because they feel supported and valued. Something as simple as a fresh set of strings can make a student feel like their instrument matters—and by extension, that *they* matter. Your donation has helped create a learning environment where every student, regardless of background or experience, has access to high-quality materials that elevate their musical journey.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and investing in their creativity. Nearly every activity I have done thus far has depended on the laminated sheets, pencils, paper, and expo markers that were donated to me through DonorsChoose. \r\n\r\nAs far as the books that were donated to my class, I have yet to have the opportunity to have students choose to read one. Students have noticed them, but there has not been much free time in my class for them to be able to indulge in reading. Our school recently became a bell-to-bell no cell school, so most students also already have their own books to read from our library. I anticipate when state testing comes around, students will have more opportunities to be able to pick up one of my classroom books to read.\r\n\r\nMy next steps as an educator are to continue working through this year's unit/lesson plans and seeing what lessons and activities achieve the highest potential in helping students reach our learning targets.
