I am a second grade teacher at a Title I school, K-2, and teach all subjects. My classroom has 23 students, three of which were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Our curriculum calls for lots of activities using digital cameras, and my second grade class uses one on almost a daily basis. However, we have to share one with all seven classes. This makes it difficult to plan activities because we don't know if we will be able to use the camera or if the battery will be charged. We would love to have a camera for our classroom that we can have access to when we need it. My students are taught to create Power Point presentations, do creative writing projects, and other activities on the computer. A digital camera would greatly enhance their presentations! Instead of incorporating pictures from the internet, my students can take pictures of their surroundings and put them in their presentations. We would love to have a digital camera to take pictures of simple machines around our school, habitats for different animals, pictures for second grade memory books, plants, people following rules, landmarks in our community; the list goes on and on. Please consider donating a digital camera to our classroom so that we can have the opportunity to complete the projects listed above.
