Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Working in a Title I school has given me the opportunity to work with many children with diverse needs. The circumstances that many of my students face include poverty, broken homes, and learning disabilities, Nevertheless, they are awesome kids that come to school every day excited to learn, explore, and engage in the content being taught in my classroom.
Although as a teacher I try my best to provide meaningful and memorable experiences for my students, the resources and opportunities that my school can fund are low.
Nevertheless, as a teacher, it is my responsibility and desire to provide my students with the best learning tools and learning environments. This will give my students a greater opportunity to be successful learners throughout their lives in and out of school.
My Project
In fourth grade, students are expected to read and understand different types of informational texts. Unfortunately, informational texts are often not appealing to the needs and interests of students. Therefore, students are not interested or easily engaged and might also have a hard time with reading these texts.
Although the texts provided for students are not as interesting or appealing to their needs, I have found that Time Magazine articles have helped my students gain interest and comprehension in reading informational texts.
Students engage and practice different skills like analyzing, inferring, and cause and effect. They are also reading about current events and things that are happening in the world around them. Overall, this resource would be a great for my students because it helps them with strengthening their reading skills, but also helps them with learn and gain awareness of the world around them which can be applied to other subject areas like Science and Social Studies. Please help me receive this awesome resource for my students, your support is greatly appreciated!
