My Students

My amazing students attend regular classes, but sometimes need to access our Autism Support Resource Room to take a sensory break or to deescalate from a frustrating situation. They learn coping strategies and social skills to be more successful in their classes.

My Project

My Autism Spectrum students will benefit from the resources I've requested in a number of ways during the COVID 19 pandemic. Many of my students have behavior goals based on how they meet expectations throughout their day. This year we are looking for safer versions of proven resources to help them cope and be more successful in their regular classrooms.

The easy to wipe vinyl-covered yoga ball chairs will be a safer alternative to the previously used fabric swing that cannot be sanitized between students.

Students will use these ball chairs to relax and for sensory input.

My students will benefit from having their own individual fidget toys that help them stay focused. We won't have to worry about cleaning items between students because each student will have their own preferred fidget.

Another sensory-related item students which will help them be less distracted and able to focus in class are the Noise Cancelling headphones. These block out extra noise when a student just wants to calm down and focus.

Finally, my students won't realize it right away, but they will enjoy the digital social skills curriculum I need for virtual and hybrid teaching. They are all focusing on their laptops more than ever this year and this new curriculum will bring to life the social skills they are learning!

I can't wait to use these resources to adapt our ASD classroom to the sensory needs of our students during the pandemic!
