Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We currently have about one thousand and seven hundred students in our middle school. About 85% are on free or reduced-price lunch. Yearly we average about 30 to 40 homeless or in transition students.
Basically, these are children who do not have a stable place they call home.
Unfortunately, money is not abundant among the students and their parents. Thankfully, you don't need a lot of money to make a difference in a person's life. This school year, we want to arm all our needy students with basic life essential supplies that they need to feel comfortable.
My Project
The supplies that I am requesting will be used throughout our school on a daily basis to assist our needy youth. The personal hygiene items will be available on an as-needed basis in The Gardens Boutique. Last school year, just 2 weeks shy of school ending, I received the approval to create The Gardens Boutique. With the help and dedication of my peer counselors, we transformed an old office into a beautiful room where all needy students can come to get school supplies, uniforms, dresses or tuxedos for prom. It's like the classic fairy-tale story Cinderella for both girls and boys. The students are transformed head to toe with outfits, shoes, ties, hair, and makeup for their special event.
My peer counselors worked hard painting, cleaning, sorting donations and making the boutique a place they are proud of.
I want to continue to support my students by providing them with the opportunity to shine like their peers on their special events. The accessories being requested such as purses, jewelry and organizers are to be used yearly with our needy youth. This one-time investment will enhance the experience of hundreds who come through The Gardens Boutique in the years ahead. The organizer will be used to organize the personal hygiene items. The vacuum will be used to keep our area rug and floor spotless for our visitors.
The lives of these students are difficult enough as it is. I want to make their school life as normal as possible.
