My Students

If we had computers available to students in the classroom, they would be able to access digital content at their own pace. This would encourage students to begin computer programming even if they have never tried before.

My students are wonderful, creative people who crave real world technology experiences.

We typically see many boys enroll in the programming and Tech Arts classes who already have had some experiences either at home or in the elementary school with programming and engineering. I am attempting to appeal to more female students and to students who may not have had a lot of access to this type of content.

My Project

My students need a computer to access content and have a way to create computer programs. I have created course content in a learning management system provided to me by my school district. This learning management system allows students to be able to work at their own pace- as long as they have access to a computer!! Eventually, I want every student to be able to have a computer at his or her disposal in class so that students can use them as the tools that they are. They should be accessing and consuming information, creating content, getting feedback on their projects and products and publishing for an authentic audience.

Attracting more females and other under served students to the computer science and engineering courses in middle school will create greater opportunities not only for those students but also for our world.

Middle school age students are eager and excited and open to trying all kinds of things. If they can be engaged at this age, they are more likely to stay interested in high school, college or even choose programming or engineering as a career.
