My Project

Our students are curious, energetic, and caring, and they love having opportunities to learn through hands-on experiences. We would love to bring an aquarium to our school as a fun and meaningful way to incorporate social-emotional learning into our everyday environment. Since the aquarium will be located outside the main office, students from all grade levels will be able to enjoy it throughout the school day.

Caring for and observing the fish will provide opportunities for students to practice important SEL skills such as responsibility, patience, empathy, and compassion.

The aquarium, filter, heater, decorations, food, and other supplies will allow us to create and maintain a healthy environment for our fish. Students can learn that living things depend on consistent care and attention, while also developing an appreciation for the needs of others.

The aquarium will also provide a calming visual for students who may be feeling overwhelmed, nervous, or frustrated. Taking a few moments to watch the fish can encourage students to slow down, take a breath, and use a simple mindfulness strategy before returning to their day.

We hope the aquarium will become a special part of our school community and provide many opportunities to connect SEL skills to real-life experiences. Whether students are observing the fish, talking about their feelings, practicing mindfulness, or learning about responsibility, the aquarium will give our students another engaging way to learn, grow, and build important social-emotional skills.
