All of the students at this school visit my classroom. These students range from age five to eight. The students at our school qualify for free breakfast and lunch programs. Some of these students may have more to overcome than others, but they are all eager to learn.
Children are now born into a technological world and embrace all forms of technology.
When they visit my classroom each week they are ready to learn anything I put in front of them. These children not only feel comfortable, but confident practicing skills they've learned in their classrooms on computers in my lab.
My Project
My students currently visit the computer lab each week to practice skills they've learned in their classrooms: reading, writing, math, science and social studies, with computer software programs. The purpose of this project is to provide the students with STEAM experiences while visiting the computer lab each week.
The LEGO coding and programming sets will be essential to allow students to learn new technology and engineering skills.
Students will also be able to practice problem-solving and collaboration abilities with these sets. We realize how important these skills are for the 21st century and the future of these students.
The LEGO Coding Express set will allow students to learn and practice simple codes to control the train. This set is perfect for K-2 students since younger students can choose to only use action blocks to control the train, while older students can use the app. The WeDo 2.0 set provides students with an introduction to programming while learning science.
