My students need STEM (Science Technololgy Engineering and Mathematics) items so our Makerspace can become a reality. Things like Legos, Cubelet Robot Blocks, and circuitry and electrical items will help them to be successful.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hands-on learning is vital for students of today. Children are learning in a very fast-paced world with technology, and we must make their education interesting for them, more than just books and pencils and paper. Students at my school love to "get their hands dirty" by being involved in their learning. This project is a way for them to do just that!
My students come from low-income homes and need the chance for hands-on-learning.
A Makerspace is a place for these students to become the engineers of the future by using materials to build and design. They also learn to follow directions in order to create a final product.
My Project
We already have a place to store our Makerspace, we just need you to fulfill our wish! Our Makerspace will be available for all students from pre-k to fifth grade. It will help them with their logical thinking skills, planning, and team building. Working in a Makerspace with items like Legos, circuits, Makey Makey kits, and robots also teaches students independence for their learning and instills a desire to go further than what is expected of them.
Hands-on learning helps to embed the knowledge in our students' minds so that it carries over each year.
I know my students will be excited to build not only their knowledge, but build their hands-on projects to share with classmates.
