Being a Title 1 school, many of my students come from poverty stricken homes. The problem is not the lack of desire, but the lack of resources. It is hard for them to compete against other children at other schools due to the minimal resources at home and at our school. Being a fine arts magnet school, our children are full of amazing talent that deserves to be shown to the rest of the community. We have also earned the status of becoming the first Lighthouse school in our school district for The Leader In Me Program, which I have watched transform our children into global thinkers. I teach ELA and Social Studies in a departmentalized grouping which is a developmentally low inclusive classroom. Many of my students have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, processing skills, and basic reasoning. Many times, they have just been identified are struggling emotionally and academically to stay motivated.
