Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are from households where many different languages are spoken. The students in my classes are in the Gifted and Talented Program and are in third, fourth, or fifth grade. My school is a Title I school in which 100% of the students receive free lunch. My students are very curious and love any project that is hands-on.
They have many questions about the world and have been working hard to find those answers through research and experimentation.
My Project
My students are going to be exploring the world of engineering and design. We are beginning a maker space in the classroom so that students will have a space in which to creatively explore.
These tools will help them learn the basics of engineering.
They will be doing hands-on exploring of simple machines such as pulleys and levers using the STEM explorations kit. They will also be able to read about the basics of bridge design. The Keva Brain Builder kits will allow them to challenge themselves to build simple structures. They will also be able to read about the basics of bridge design. The Amazing Maker Space books will give students to opportunity to boost their reading skills by reading about the creative process of engineering. Through reading and exploration, my students will get a chance to learn more about engineering and design.
