Help me give my students a maker space allowing kids the opportunity to explore science, engineering, technology and math through tools like LEGO, Osmo, and Wonder Workshop Dash Robot. Encouraging students to pursue careers in the 21st century!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school in one of the largest districts in our state. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, students come to school ready and excited to learn.
Our school serves as a home away from home for students with bilingual, hardworking families who need just a little extra support to be successful.
Being their teacher means being someone they can count on to listen, love, and understand. In second grade, students can begin to develop a love for learning, and the key skills upon which to build a strong foundation for their future. Together we read, play, and grow, and with your help we can do even more.
My Project
Integrating science, technology, and engineering in the classroom allows students to take charge of their learning and engage in critical thinking while having fun! By building a Maker Space students will have access to resources to spark an interest in engineering like LEGO's, technology to inspire a career in robotics, and much more.
Children in poverty often believe that many of life's doors are closed to them, but by exposing students to technology and engineering at a young age we can start a momentum that will knock down any barriers.
When students enter the Maker Space they will find all of the items requested in the project. First they will be inspired by books like "Ada Twist: Scientist" "Rosie Revere: Engineer" and "Iggy Peck: Architect". These books show children that anything is possible especially when it comes to solving a problem. Then, kids will get to choose between a variety of building materials like LEGO Bricks, LEGO Chain Reactions, Brain Flakes, and Magnetic Tiles to complete challenges such as; build a bridge, tower, boat, and so much more! Students can also explore the world of coding through tools like Ozobot (and stickers) , Dash Robot (with challenges and launcher), and OSMO's coding Awbe. and finally an organized cart to hold it all in.
Through problem based learning students are encouraged to explore their interests and become creators while learning valuable skills for the future. When students are actively engaged in their learning they are more successful and more enthusiastic to pursue their education. In our classroom we want to build makers that will one day help shape the world. I want every child that enters our classroom to feel as though they have the power to make the impossible, possible and with your help we can do just that!
