Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

After being exposed to a civics unit of study using the requested books, posters, workbooks, wireless presenter and mouse pad and learning about the structure of government and the rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens in their community, the kiddos engage in community service project within our school community. It will be their goal learn how to be compassionate to others who are less fortunate than them. My fifth grade kiddos would love to give back to people within our school community who are less fortunate by providing food, treats, stress relief items, and snacks through a student-created service center.

After learning about community service and civic responsibility by engaging in a series of activities, lessons, and discussions, the students will create an appealing in-class help center.

They would be in charge of storing, organizing and labeling items (using the tape and mounting adhesive strips) in the center, and advertising items that will be available to all students in the school community who would be in need of a snack, drinks and even mental health items (stress relief/sensory gadgets). Additionally, using the art supplies (acrylic paint pens, wood slices and stencils), the students will create ornaments to include in their center and share as gifts throughout our school community.

The kiddos would make it their mission to have compassion for those in need as they fight food insecurities by inviting them to our center. Creating this center will help our kiddos fulfill the needs of others. Civics goes beyond learning about government rules. It includes actions you take to help your community. This project will encourage our students to think about others, exhibit compassion for those less fortunate, and engage in being an active citizen.
