Making a Change Through National Board Certification
I need help reaching my goal of achieving National Board Certification as an Exceptional Needs Specialist
This project expired on February 5, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students are amazing. All of the students I work with have disabilities. I recently transitioned to a support role working with special education teachers at 11 different title 1 schools in an urban school district. All of the students with whom I interact have amazing strengths that help enrich their various classrooms. One of my schools is a school that I taught at for 5 years and have developed close relationships with the students and teachers there.
All the students that I reach attend title 1 schools, meaning that many of them are eligible for free lunch due to their low-income status.
Despite many of the challenges they face, my students make incredible strides academically and behaviorally as they work to meet their goals.
Achieving National Board Certification is a rigorous process that requires deep self-reflection. Through this process, I desire to continue to develop and grow in my practice as an educator and use what I learn to help all the teachers and students with whom I work. The National Board Certification process can take up to three years and involves the completion of four separate components. Each component costs $475. Last year, I completed Component 2, which focused on differentiating instruction to meet individual learner needs. This year, I intend on completing the remaining three components. Component 1 is a written and multiple choice assessment, Component 3 involves video-taping two lessons and reflecting on those lessons, and Component 4 addresses student and professional community needs as well as student assessment. Please consider helping me reach my goal of completing National Board Certification. Thank you for your support!
