My Students

My students are awesome! They come from a variety of different backgrounds. Many are from economically challenged parts of town. Some had riots in their neighborhood last year, and even more have parents who fled war-torn parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia. My students speak several different languages at home. Many of my students have disabilities that act as speed bumps on their road to success.

My students want to succeed in this world, but they just need help.

They like to move, they love to talk and they love technology. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households. Many move every few weeks and even more receive free lunch and breakfast at school. They need positive examples and some extra help. This includes STEM subject areas and learning the four Cs. Their families are also great. But many lack skills and resources to help their children.

My Project

Every teacher thinks the world revolves around their subject. I teach technology literacy, so it sort of does. Part of my job is preparing students for careers with technology that don't even exist yet. Technology is being infused into almost every part of out society.

The world of technology is changing so rapidly that keeping up to speed on trends can be a full time job.

This alone can make teaching technology difficult. However, Middle School students are often the first to try new technology and tend to be in the know. I need help to keep up with current technology and continue to make my technology classroom engaging to all levels of learners.

Makey Makey is a devise that you connect to your computer and it allows you to use other items as a keyboard or mouse. Where this is really impactful is with students create games with a coding program (we use scratch). The Makey Makey interface allows students to use anything to run their newly created coded game.
