Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During my 25 years of teaching I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by wonderful children, teachers, and parents and because of this I have committed my life to teaching. I currently work in a school with AMAZING English Language Learners ages 4-5 who want to learn about their world and always strive to do their best everyday. Many of our students come from low income homes that are limited in providing their children with the experiences and the tools needed to be successful in school and in the community.
Imagining something may be the first step in making it happen, but it takes real time and real efforts and real people to learn things, make things, turn thoughts into deeds or visions into inventions ~Fred Rogers.
It is for that reason that I feel it is important that all children are given the opportunity to showcase their creative abilities by giving them the tools to explore, create and invent.
My Project
My students walk into school everyday feeling excited, eager and ready to learn about the world around them. It is because of this, I would like to create a makerspace area in my classroom with a variety of materials that will give my students the freedom to explore and create something unique and innovative. I strongly believe that a makerspace area in my classroom will help prepare my students to be 21st Century learners.
Providing a makerspace area in my classroom where my student can work together to invent, create and share new ideas is what I hope this project will offer to all of my students.
