Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is both ethnically and financially very diverse. But, I feel that both students and I benefit from the mix of students we have as it provides access to opinions, cultures, and situations that each student may not experience at home. At home, many of my students speak languages other than English and many are learning English now.
The classes I teach are electives so the students are from a variety of ability levels and not all consider themselves artists; this creates a great opportunity for me and my students to collaborate, many bring skill and knowledge in math, science or other subjects that I don't know as much about so they teach me as well as me teaching them creative arts.
We are a large school and have large classes and sometimes this is difficult but it also has taught our students to work together and collaborate. I am so often impressed when students jump in to help one another in my classes, it may be helping each other to understand a technique or tool or when we have a student who is an English language learner and another student jumps in to help me and the student.
My Project
We have two used printers but don't have enough filament and need some replacement cables to get started. The members of Makerspace club here at the high school are ready to get printing! They have been learning to design online and want to print some of their designs but we need these supplies to get started.
I have a very excited group of students who want to print but we need cables a power cord, some cartridges and filament for the printers we inherited.
The ideas are just overflowing out of these kids heads and we need to get the supplies to get their ideas and designs printed. I love when kids are so excited and interested in learning something new and will be thrilled when I can see their excitement when they can finally work with the 3d printers.
