Makers and Takers...Spreading Warmth and Kindness Everywhere!
Help me give my students the opportunity to turn these beautiful yarns into hats, blankets, or cozy handmade animals to provide warmth and comfort for their families or for members of our community.
My students represent the diversity that is the USA. Many are refugees from around the world (and this number is increasing all the time). They speak more than 70 languages and live in all kinds of family and housing situations. Resilient, strong, intelligent and determined...those are my Colonels.
I would like to introduce my students to the fun and exciting projects that can be made by their own hands using various materials such as yarn to create things that can be both beautiful and useful.
I will teach them the steps involved in investigating an idea, designing the idea, creating the item, and analyzing and reflecting on the outcome. They will learn from their failures and successes, creating in them a sense of accomplishment that ultimately builds confidence and character. We will also use this time to foster a better sense of community, supporting their social-emotional growth.
I have already introduced some of my students to hand-knitting last fall and they loved it! However, I have run out of material and am requesting your help to obtain more supplies for creating their projects. They have shown interest in making lap blankets, hats, and amiguri animals.
Practice is a necessary step in the process, albeit an expensive one. They deserve the chance to explore these fun projects that could eventually lead them to further their skills in education and business opportunities, as well as spread some kindness to those people in their hearts! Thank you so much.
