I have 25 sweet First grade students. They are kind hearted and loving kids. They are also extremely hard working. They come to school each and every day ready to learn and with a smile on the face. As do I! Our school day can feel very long when you are only 6/7 years old, but these kids of mine sore through the day. They complete Phonics, Guided Reading, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies, go to specials, lunch and recess and STILL have energy to spare. They amaze me.
Unfortunately, our school is located within a high poverty district and many of my students do not have the resources that they need at their fingertips.
I do not want them to feel as though they deserve less than other districts may have. I want to ensure that they are set up for success.
I teach six and seven year olds how to write. Not only that thiugh. First, we learn sounds- how to blend them- and how to put those sounds together to form words. In first grade srudents take their thoughts and put them on paper.
Writing can be very challenging for some students- so I want to make it fun!
I want my students to want to learn to write. What a better way than to give them a writers workshop full of colorful pens, clipboards, staplers and markers. As a teacher, it is my job to make learning fun and foster my students creativity. I hope you wil consider our project
