Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and eager to learn so I am always looking for interesting and innovative ways to teach and engage my students. The majority of my students are Mexican-American and are born and raised on the Southeast side of Chicago. Over the past few years, I have had an overwhelming amount of students from immigrant families or newcomers speaking no English.
My students have hard-working, loving parents who may not have the resources or finances to provide the financial support needed for their children to reach their full learning potential.
Many of my students also have special needs, so it's of great importance to offer them as much support as possible. Providing my students with the means to reach their full potential and create a love of learning is what makes my job worth it every day.
My Project
My students need to think now about their financial futures and the best way that helps them to learn is by playing games. Through these financial board games, like Payday and Monopoly, not only will my kids have fun, but they will learn about budgeting, savings plans, and ways to become entrepreneurs. What works for my kids is making learning fun and meaningful lessons. These materials, especially the books, will help them understand the vocabulary within financial literacy and what are the best ways to go about becoming financially stable in the future. Not only understanding the importance of saving now, but how good decision making with their money can pave the way for financial success in the future.
