Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at an alternative academy. We serve students who have been given up on by our larger, comprehensive schools. Our students come to us already having been told literally or figuratively that they won’t make it as high school students. Seeing the looks and tears of joy on their faces at graduation makes it all worth it. We serve as a second chance for them, but often we are the best thing to happen to them! Thank you!
My Project
Students need to become experts in the field of research in order to compete with their peers on the next level. We need to be able to get by the basics in order to even begin to get them where they need to be.
We don’t even have enough supplies for students to keep physical portfolios.
We are moving towards having an in-school Chromebook for each student, but now we need headphones and other basic materials to help our alternative school function and compete like a comprehensive school. Basic supplies like pens and folders can help make our students whole. Thanks!
