Make The Little Things Bigger With A Zoom Microscope.
My students need one zoom TV microscope, a color printer, a green house, a set of 10 safety goggles, a butterfly nursery with extra caterpillas, one flat panel LCD TV, a model of water cycle, and a ready to plant kit.
I am a 4th year science teacher in a very high need school in New York, and I teach grades 3, 4, and 5. My school is a Title I school where most of the students participate in the free lunch program. However, for six years in the same school, I have held very high expectations for all my students who are very keen on making a difference in their lives and that of the community as evidenced by the success of the Recycle Program.
Most of the students have been exposed to very little hands-on science inquiry in their educational life. They are often lacking in the basic science thinking skills, whose application is so essential for one or all to succeed academically as well as socially.
Once they enter the lab, their curiosity can not be matched. I have spent a lot of my time trying to find creative ways to engage students in a hands-on-approach. My students love the idea of coming to the "science lab" where they can engage in discovery learning. More so, the new Harcourt Science Program that my school is using is technology based and hands-on, but with limited resources, I am only able to do so much.
This is where I need your help. I know the resources I am asking for will greatly impact my students. They will discover and understand how science tools, such as the zoom microscope can extend our senses. Students will construct their understanding of the life cycle of living things by living through it. They will be able to use computers to type and print their work. I am so excited and in great anticipation. I can see their faces light up with awe and anticipation. I can say with great confidence that grades will soar. Please, we await your response to the realization of my students' dreams and hopes.
I thank you in advance for your generosity. Your help will ensure that my students excel academically and socially. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of these young ones. I promise you that you will hear from us as soon we kick off our unit on life science which is unit 1 on NY scope and sequence for grade 4.
