Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are some of the kindest I've ever worked with. Even though seventy percent of them are living below the poverty line at home, they always strive to give the best version of themselves in class.

The library is the beating heart of our school.

However, it had to be closed and renovated earlier this year when our school flooded. I'm attempting to build my classroom library to help my students develop their literacy daily with ongoing book access.

My Project

All students are motivated to read when their teacher is excited, book choices are presented to them, and they have had an opportunity to make their voices heard in selecting books that appeal to their interests. Check plus for teacher excitement already! Hopefully, beginning to build a classroom library based on what they already love helps to check off those other two boxes.

Young readers need to practice reading daily, and I want to provide reading opportunities that will inspire my students to read and be excited about reading.
