My students are intelligent, energetic, and passionate about their education.They strive to push their learning to higher levels even being in new country that they're not familiar with. They don't let being a newcomer to the U.S. hold them back from a brighter future.
By expanding their knowledge, they hope to impact their school and communities in positive ways.
Having access to cultural relevant texts at their level will help them develop their critical thinking skills and strive to be even stronger readers in a language that’s not their first.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create for my students. Every day my students read for 10 minutes at the beginning of class. These books open up more opportunities for them to learn and be active in their learning. Books can take you many places.
It's important for students to be able to read books with similar faces and places.
It gives them a piece of ownership and some joy to see the resemblance. Being able to see themselves in the books will make their reading even more meaningful. This creates a positive environment for learning to take place.
