Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are all boys in a low income environment ranging from Kindergarten through Fifth grade. These boys are extremely active and open to all different sports and outside activities but don't have the resources to clubs or outside organizations to join.

We are trying to start a well-rounded sports program but lack equipment and materials to move forward with the process.

In addition to sports equipment, we are in need of an outdoor creative space, athletic courts and fields to perform organized sports with the ability to hold various games at the same time.

My Project

Many of our students do not have access to a safe place outside to run around and play at home every evening, so we give them over an hour of PE and recess every day. Our students need to be active so that they are healthy and ready for school every day. Video games, computers and television are enticing to young students and can take away their interest in engaging in physical activity. By giving them fun and engaging activities to do during the school day, they will be more willing to participate in group sports, accept a challenge, and learn something about themselves. Also, many of our students suffer from allergies, so on days when PE is inside, they could have clean air and still enjoy physical education.
