Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a Title I school where over 90% of them receive free and reduced lunch. They have not let this stop their achievement or insatiable curiosity.
In fact, our school was in the top 25% of growth in our very large district!
However, to continue this growth we need to continuously look for ways to spark their thinking, feed their curiosity and provide opportunities for them to have productive struggle to develop resilience to complete difficult tasks.
My Project
When going through the Design Process, children need to first develop their ideas on paper. Colored pencils allow students to differentiate and label with colors and make their ideas pop off of the page.
After the prototype is sketched it's time to make ideas come to life and Craft Stems are an easy and safe way for our budding young engineers to build.
Imagine a kindergartner designing a pulley using craft stems and some recycled materials. The possibilities are endless!
Having these "staples" in our MakerSpace will allow my students to design different projects and let their imagination go wild.
