Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a middle school in a large city. We are a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast, lunch, and supper. My students are amazing and eager learners, and I want to help them become successful, happy adults.
Most of my students are from the local area.
They have chosen to follow a marine science and environmental studies pathway for their middle school years. English is a second language for many of them. Their parents encourage them to learn as much as they can, while supporting the teachers any way they can.
My Project
During lunch, many students join me to let their creativeness flow. As opposed to elementary school, my middle school students do not get many chances during their classes to be creative. My Craft Club is a chance for these students to make gifts and cards for family and friends while socializing and meeting new friends. However, my Crafts Club has become so popular, we need more crafts.
My students love to create gifts for their family and friends to celebrate birthdays and holidays.
We will use the wood blocks to hold the wire photo holders. After drilling holes in the wood blocks, the wire will be glued in. My students will then decoupage or paint the wood to personalize it. They have such a great feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction when they can share their artistic talents with others..
