I need to attend the Infosys Pathfinders Summer Institute in Indiana this summer so that I can become an expert and learn all about programming the amazing Wonder Workshop robots I have in my classroom.

My Students

My 4th grade rock stars love our Wonder Workshop Dash, Dot and Cue robots. In addition, their interest in programming far surpasses my knowledge, and with some even their coding ability outperforms mine!

I teach at a Title 1 school in East Tennessee with a poverty rate of 43%, and for many of my students their only access to a computer or robot to program is when they are at school.

Integrating the use of robots in lessons captivates my students. They are more engaged and eager to program a robot to draw angles and shapes that follow given criteria, than they would be if I just asked them to do it on pencil and paper themselves. I want to continue to foster this kind of engagement in my classroom.

My Project

Attending Pathfinders this summer would be an amazing experience, and allow me to learn about everything that Wonder Workshop has to offer for my students. It will provide me with the opportunity to develop skills to use the robots I have in my classroom more effectively.

Coding is an essential 21st-century skill for students today to learn and it teaches and engages them in creative problem solving, thinking critically, and persevering through failures.

My attendance at this institute will better prepare me to guide and facilitate their learning these skills.

I can attest to the value of attending the Infosys Pathfinders Institute, in February I attended the winter institute and the knowledge and information I learned enabled me to immediately come back and implement Tynker Coding with my classroom. In less than a month my students have completed over 275 projects and over 90 lessons. Every student is actively engaged, and I believe it's because I came back equipped to help and support their learning effectively.
