This school year I have 65 eager, enthusiastic, hard working students enter my classroom. All 65 students have entered with varying skill sets, background knowledge, home lives and individual needs.
They come to school ready to learn even when all odds may be against them.
About half of my students are below or well below grade level expectations for ELA and Math. Our school is a Title 1 school due to our low-income family population. Due to our low-income area, rising costs, building maintenance, and unexpected expenses, our district budget was in a great deal of trouble which led to teachers and paraprofessionals being cut. Furthermore, classroom supply orders for the current school year were limited to only essential materials. We are being asked to do and provide more for our students with less resources. Our students deserve every possible chance to succeed and acquiring materials, equipment, and supplies from outside sources will help me give my students that chance.
My Project
Math is one subject area that very few truly enjoy. Students struggle to develop a solid foundation of math skills, which can easily cause frustration as they progress through grades. My hope is that with these materials, I can provide students with a more hands-on learning experience to show students that they can achieve and learning can be fun!
By donating to our project, you will not help to improve basic math skills, but you will ultimately help to increase a student's love of learning!
Through the use of multiplication games such as 24, Mobi, Tri-Facta, and more, you will give students the opportunity to practice (and hopefully master) basic math facts! These facts are vital in easing the frustration and increasing the understanding of new math concepts such as long division and fractions. Fraction tiles and multipliers will allow me to offer a more hands-on learning approach for students during small group. Students will be able to physically manipulate fraction strips to help further their understanding of the 'why' behind the fraction multiplication process. These experiences will be a complete game changer for my students by allowing them to become more confident in their math skills and to love math again!
